Well, it's been a wet winter, not a great preseason for lacrosse. It's been especially frustrating for Hoover who has tried to practice the last 4 Tuesdays, each of which has been cancelled due to weather and opening day was postponed as well. If this upcoming week's games get postponed, Hoover will head up to Memphis to play teams that utilize sport grass and have been practicing 5 days per week for the last 2 months ! It will be a struggle to compete, talent wise Hoover will be fine but from a conditioning standpoint it may be tough to hang with an opponnent of Christian Brothers caliber. This is the year that I am confident we could defeat CBA but the lack of practice and the lack of conditioning has me concerned. We'll see how we do, I know we are anxious and excited to get the season rolling, maybe our excitement will translate into goals !!

Brye French heading to Navy

Brye French had official signing day last week committing to play both football and lacrosse for the Naval Academy. It is amazing how other players around the country just can't believe a player from Alabama can actually be a great lacrosse player. On Inside Lacrosse.com there is a series of postings on the high school forum questioning why Navy would pick a player from Alabama. At first it upsets me but when I think of who is probably posting negative remarks it is probably jealous kids who won't even make it to college. Brye is big and strong enough to play with anyone in the country as he proved down in Tampa for the NDP tournament. Being a great lacrosse player is not just throwing and catching (which he can do very well) but it is about athelticism, endourance and mental toughness. Throwing around every day isn't enough, if you don't have speed and can't get your hands free to shoot or pass you won't make it at that level. People also forget that not just anyone gets into schools like Duke, Navy and Princeton, you have to have great grades and a great work ethic. In my opinion, Brye is the complete athlete and he will do very well at the academy playing lacrosse, football or both. Hoover is certainly going to miss him next year, our team just won't be the same without his leadership
