Dan Anderson Classic

I'm really hoping that the Brentwood coach didn't actually think his players kept their compose during the championship game. There has to be a mis-quote in the Birmingham news today. To set the record straight, Conor Conway is one of the most quiet defensemen we have and #17 from Brentwood started talking crap which he had done all weekend. Before we knew it, #17 was throwing punches at Conor. Tony Azbik is a new player and didn't know you can't go on the field from the bench during a fight and Jayson Mullins attempted to grab him but stepped on the field and was also ejected. Due to #17 STARTING the fight, Hoover was forced to play 3 men down for 3 minutes of an 8 minute quarter !! I'm not sure how this coach thinks that Hoover was trying to intimidate his team when they were doing all the talking and causing all the rough play !! I really wish our local newspapers would support us and find the true facts before publishing inaccurate information !!

Birmingham News
The championship trophy in the 2008 Dan Anderson Lacrosse Classic is leaving Alabama.
The Brentwood (Tenn.) Club Team overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat Hoover 7-6 in sudden death overtime in the final on Sunday.
Just 38 seconds into overtime, Brentwood's Sam Wyatt sent everyone home with an unassisted, game-winning goal that beat Hoover goalkeeper Bryan Simkanich. Wyatt led the Brentwood offensive attack with four goals.

Hoover took an early 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from captain Brye French and Jack Winters.
French, who had three goals, leads the Bucs in scoring this season. He plans to play both football and lacrosse at the Naval Academy.
"We knew exactly where Brye was on the field at all times," Brentwood goalkeeper David Catterton said.
The game turned ugly when three Hoover players - Tony Azbik, Jayson Mullins and Robbie Washer - were ejected during a deadball situation for coming off the bench to get involved in a fight between Hoover's Connor Conway and Brentwood's Travis Long.
"I thought our kids kept their composure when Hoover tried to intimidate and run over us," Brentwood head coach Chuck Catterton said.
David Catterton, the son of the head coach, was given the most valuable player award after making 11 saves in the final.

It's time to think about summer camp, the spring season has just kicked off and already some of the elite summer camps are closed out. Top 205 has been full since October, it take a recommendation from your head coach and some strong credentials to be invited. Last year Hoover's Justin Sly attended the rising Juniors 205 camp and has been invited to Blue Chip camp at Fairfield University. Justin has visited Towson State, Loyola and Albany State and is the top prospect in the state right now. For others that have aspirations to play big time college ball you have to figure out where you think you can play and attend that camp. If you are not a 4.0 student, don't attend the Princeton camp, if you are good but maybe not at a DI or DII level look to attend a Div III camp like Birmingham Southern, Gettysburg or Lynchburg college. If a player is serious about playing college lacrosse they need to start making decisions after their freshman year. It will be highly unlikely for a senior to get noticed and go on to play at a top tier school, late bloomers should look to Junior college or high-end club and then atempt to transfer after establishing themselves. BAMALAX will be expanding this summer and will be attending more competitive recruiting tournaments, players from Alabama need to make the BAMALAX team to increase their chances of playing at the next level.

The Bamalax U11 team went to Parkland, Florida and won 3 out of 4 games ! As a kid, I never beat Yorktown High school from NY and our team from Alabama (of all places) defeated the Yorktown squad under the lights Friday night ! When I was in high school Yorktown was a national powerhouse winning state championships almost every year, we were always close but my senior year we lost 6-4 and that was the closest I ever came to a win so eventhough it's U11, it made me happy to see us pull out a win. Thinking back on Yorktown I always did well against them even scoring the lone goal in a 17-1 blow out my Junior year but to put it in percepective that year they had 19 players get DI scholarships ! The defense I played against for 4 years was made up of Bill Ralph who was an all-american and went on to be a 4X all-american at Maryland and the DI defensive player of the year along with two other all-americans, Bill Dwan (Johns Hopkins) and Bob Bonner (Syracuse), even their goalie, Kovavit went to Sienna on a full ride ! Well enough about my childhood, just glad to finally get a win against them ! Hoover midfielder Justin Sly is heading to Alabany State on a recruiting visit to meet with head coach Scott Marr who is also my age and a former all-american and Johns Hopkins graduate as well as Yorktown alumnus, looks like Justin will have something to brag about from little ole' Alabama !
